PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The primary objective is to prepare graduates for entry level positions
in the business office environment as Bookkeepers, Accounting
Assistants, or Account Representatives.

OUTLINE
Module 1: Intro to Office Environment
Computer Basics
This course is a detailed
presentation of microcomputer hardware and software and the Window
operating system and environment. Students learn computer components and
terminologies and how to operate the computer and peripherals. Students
also learn how to create simple documents using word processing software
and how to effectively use the internet and writing email.
Understanding the Office Environment
This course covers the basic aspects and
protocols required for success in the office environment.
Module 2: Office Automation
Basic Word
Processing
This course provides a basic introduction to Word Processing and a basic
understanding of Microsoft Word for Windows.
Basic Spreadsheets
This course provides a basic introduction
to the use of spreadsheets in the office setting and a basic
understanding of Microsoft Excel for Windows.
Basic Business Writing
This course provides a basic introduction
to business writing and correspondence and prepares the student for
composing memos, faxes, basic letters, and basic office reports.
Office E-Mail and Internetworking
This course provides a basic introduction
to the use office E-Mail and use of the office intranet. A basic
understanding of Microsoft Outlook is also covered.
Advanced Internet Use and Navigation
This course covers a basic understanding of navigating the Internet
using the popular Netscape and Microsoft Explorer browsers. Basic use
of Internet Email, locating and retrieving information, Internet Search
Engines, using the World Wide Web, and other popular Internet tools for
maximizing results.L
Module 3: Microsoft Office
Advanced Microsoft Excel
This course covers the latest features of the latest version of
Microsoft Excel for Windows and provides an advanced level understanding
of Microsoft Excel for Windows. Students will learn how to create
worksheets, macros, charts, and pivot tables. Students will also learn
how to maintain and manage lists of information. Students are taught how
to create charts to graphically represent worksheet data, and how to
maintain and manage lists. The course will also cover in detail how to
customize their work areas and create advanced formulas. They will also
explore worksheet troubleshooting techniques and multiple file linking
options. Students will investigate worksheet analysis tools,
importing/exporting data, troubleshooting techniques and compatibility
with other applications.
Database
Principles
This course is an introduction to the use of a database program
including database structure, editing, data retrieving, filtering,
querying, and producing meaningful reports.
Microsoft Access
This course introduces the students to the main concepts of database
management systems, presenting Microsoft Access as a database package.
It includes topics such as creating a data file, sorting, indexing,
creating entry forms, creating labels and reports, using functions,
using memory variables, work areas, accessing information in different
data files related to each other. The student will also learn about
database programming covering topics such as loops, control statements,
procedures, functions, menu driven application designs, etc. Upon
completion of this module students will be able to create and maintain a
database. They will also be able to write multiple module database
programs.
Module 4: Principals of Accounting
Accounting Principles
Introduction to application of fundamental accounting terms, concepts,
principles, and procedures. Students will also learn accounting for
payroll, cash, sales and purchases, and financial statement preparation.
Computerized Accounting
This course includes a detailed
presentation of Computerized Accounting. The course will prepare the
student to perform the basic activities and principles of accounting.
Topics include: accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory
control, daily operations fiscal reporting, end of month fiscal
reporting, end of year fiscal reporting, etc.
QuickBooks
Student will learn how to use Quickbook to setup companies accounting
procedure including: Chart of Account, Payroll and Balances, Sales and
Payables.
Module 5:
Job Search Workshop
This course covers
communications skills, effective resume writing, and job hunting
techniques. Students are also taught how to improve their interpersonal
skills and how to promote and market their skills using effective
interviewing techniques.
